Android 16 Beta 3: Charging Optimization Updates

  • 80% Charging Limit: Google has refined the 'Limit to 80%' charging feature in Android 16 Beta 3. This setting, introduced in December with Android 15 QPR1, aims to extend battery life by limiting daily charges to 80%. The phone will now fully charge to 100% once every one to two weeks to maintain accurate battery level reporting.

  • User Feedback: Users have requested a more convenient way to toggle this feature on or off, such as through a Quick Settings Tile. This would be particularly useful for situations where a full charge is essential, like during trips.

  • UI Changes: The 'Charging optimization' settings have been moved to the bottom of the Battery health page. These changes are expected to roll out with the broader OS update in June.

  • Additional Features: Android 16 Beta 3 also includes other updates such as notification summaries, a new Easter egg with 'autopilot' and live updates, and an alternative method for closing apps.
