Apple Expands DIY Repair Options: M4 Mac Lineup Now Supported
Apple Now Offers Parts and Manuals for M4 Mac Repairs
Apple has expanded its self-repair program to include the M4 Mac lineup, which includes the MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini. The program, launched in April 2022, provides repair enthusiasts with the parts and manuals needed to perform their own repairs. Each device's repair page includes an exploded view, part numbers, and a list of necessary tools.
While some tools are standard, others may need to be ordered or rented for more specialized repairs. Parts and tools can be purchased through the Self Service Repair Store, which is operated by an Apple-authorized third-party provider. Customers are required to return 'core' parts to receive a credit towards their initial purchase price.
Despite the availability of these resources, the program remains impractical for many due to the complexity and high cost of repairs. Authorized Apple repair services often remain the more economical option in terms of cost, time, and risk of further damage. The self-repair program also covers other devices like the iPhone 12 and later models, the Apple Studio Display, and the 2024 Beats Pill, but not accessories like the Magic Keyboard or Mouse, nor the Apple Vision Pro.
