Apple Faces Legal Battle Over Carbon Neutral Claims for Apple Watch

A new lawsuit challenges Apple's carbon neutral claims, alleging the tech giant misled consumers with false environmental promises on its latest watch models.

Apple is facing a new lawsuit over its claims that certain models of the Apple Watch are carbon neutral. Seven purchasers from California, Florida, and Washington, D.C., allege that Apple’s carbon neutrality claims for the Apple Watch Series 9, SE, and Ultra 2 are false and misleading. The plaintiffs argue that two specific carbon offset projects—Kenya’s Chyulu Hills Project and China’s Guinan Project—are not genuine, as the carbon reductions would have occurred regardless of Apple's involvement. The lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction to prevent Apple from using the term 'carbon neutral' in its marketing. Since 2023, Apple has expanded its carbon-neutral products to include the M4 Mac mini and additional Apple Watch models.
