Apple Triumphs Over iCloud Storage Antitrust Lawsuit

Apple triumphs in iCloud storage lawsuit as judge dismisses claims of monopoly and unfair pricing, signaling no immediate changes to the service.

Apple has won a lawsuit dismissal in the United States that accused the company of illegal monopolization and overcharging for iCloud storage services. The plaintiffs, in their class action suit, alleged that Apple coerced customers into using iCloud to back up essential data and settings files due to its unique capabilities, leading to inflated prices. However, U.S. District Judge Eumi Lee in San Jose, California, ruled that the plaintiffs failed to demonstrate violations of federal or state antitrust laws. The judge highlighted several points: the allegedly high prices could actually encourage competitors to enter the market, using iCloud storage is not a requirement for users, and Apple has not been proven to hold monopolistic power in cloud storage. The ruling suggests that Apple's current 5GB free plan and paid storage options are likely to remain unchanged.
