AppleCare+ Ditches Prepaid Plans for Flexible Subscription Model

AppleCare+ shifts to subscription-only model, dropping prepaid multi-year plans at retail locations.

AppleCare+ Moves to Subscription-Only Model As of February 4, 2025, Apple has officially transitioned its AppleCare+ extended warranty program to a subscription model. This move follows earlier rumors and an announcement by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman on X (formerly Twitter).

Key Changes:

  • Prepaid Options Phased Out: Prepaid multi-year AppleCare+ plans are no longer available at retail locations. Online purchases through Apple's website still offer these options, for the time being.
  • Subscription Flexibility: The subscription model allows customers to cover their devices for as long as they need, effectively serving as product insurance.

Coverage Details:

  • Eligible Devices: iPhone, iPad, Mac models, Apple Watch, Apple Vision Pro, and Apple Displays are covered under the subscription plan.
  • Ineligible Products: AirTag, keyboards, mice, and Apple Pencil do not qualify for AppleCare+ coverage. Some products like AirPods, HomePod, HomePod mini, and Apple TV still offer prepaid two-or-three year plans but lack a subscription option.

Features of AppleCare+:

  • Accidental Damage: Covers broken screens, battery issues, and other accidental damage.
  • 24/7 Priority Support: Provides customers with round-the-clock access to technical support.
  • Theft and Loss Coverage: Optional for iPhone owners at an additional cost.

Checking Coverage:

  • iPhone/iPad: Go to Settings > General > About > Coverage.
  • Mac: Click the Apple Menu, then navigate to System Settings > General > About.
