AppleCare+ Shifts to Subscription Model: Multi-Year Plans Phased Out in Stores and on Device
According to a tweet from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to phase out the option to purchase multi-year AppleCare+ plans in physical Apple Stores and on-device next week. This change means that customers will no longer be able to buy 2-3 year plans upfront, instead opting for monthly or annual subscriptions. The only way to purchase an up-front plan will be at the point of purchase from the online store. For instance, a 3-year AppleCare+ plan for the 14-inch MacBook Pro costs $279 upfront, compared to a $99.99/year subscription rate, saving users about $20.
