US lawmakers from both parties are urging Britain to rescind its demand for a backdoor into iOS, warning that it could compromise American security. The UK government has invoked a law allowing it to compel companies for technical cooperation without their ability to disclose such demands. Apple previously objected to this authority, stating it undermines global digital security. Former National Cyber Security Center CEO Ciaran Martin agrees, saying it would weaken security worldwide. Lawmakers have also called on the new National Intelligence Director, Tulsi Gabbard, to reevaluate US-UK intelligence sharing if the UK does not reverse its stance.
