Brazilian Court Reinstates Sideloading Mandate for iPhones, Giving Apple 90 Days to Comply
Following a complaint by e-commerce giant MercadoLibre, Brazil's antitrust regulator CADE ruled in November 2023 that Apple’s anti-steering rules were illegal, requiring Apple to allow sideloading and other distribution methods within 90 days. Apple initially succeeded in getting this decision overturned by a Federal Civil Court, but on May 9, 2025, another federal court reinstated the original injunction, resetting the 90-day deadline for Apple to implement the changes. This ruling comes after a significant defeat for Apple in the U.S. regarding its case against Epic Games.
