Android 14 Update for Chromecast with Google TV

Google has officially started rolling out the Android 14 update to the Chromecast with Google TV, despite it going out of stock last month. The update, UTTC.241218.004, is a significant 809 MB download that upgrades the device from Android 12 to Android 14.

Key Features:

  • Find My Remote: The Google TV Streamer Voice Remote now supports the Find My Remote feature.
  • Customizable Button: Users can customize buttons on the remote for more personalized control.
  • Security Patch Update: The security patch has been updated from November 2024 to January 2025.
  • System Stability and Improvements: General improvements to system stability are included in this update.

Availability:

To check for and install the update, users can go to Settings > System > About > System Update. It is unclear if this will be the last major OS upgrade for the Chromecast with Google TV, but Google has promised continued support through smaller updates.

In 2024, Google released eight updates for the device, and as of early 2025, two updates have already been rolled out.
