The European Commission has opened an antitrust investigation into Corning, a key Apple supplier, over concerns that the company may have abused its dominant position in the glass market for handheld electronic devices. The Commission is concerned that exclusive supply agreements between Corning and mobile phone manufacturers (OEMs) and companies that process raw glass ('finishers') may have affected competition by excluding rival glass producers from large segments of the market, reducing customer choice, increasing prices, and stifling innovation to the detriment of consumers worldwide.
