FIDO Alliance's New Specifications Aim to End Passkey Vendor Lock-in
The FIDO Alliance has introduced two new draft specifications, the Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP) and the Credential Exchange Format (CXF), designed to improve the usability of passkeys by addressing vendor lock-in issues. Passkeys offer a more secure authentication method compared to traditional passwords, but their adoption in enterprises is slowed down by difficulties in transferring them between platforms or password managers. The new specifications aim to create a standardized and secure way for migrating passkeys without compromising security or manual processes. This will allow users to switch between services seamlessly while promoting broader adoption of passkeys.
