'Fortnite' Returns to App Store on the Horizon: Epic Games Proposes Game-Changing Deal
Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney has proposed a deal to Apple: end external commissions globally and cease controls over external linking in exchange for bringing 'Fortnite' back to the App Store and ceasing litigation. This comes after a ruling by Judge Gonzalez Rogers, which forced Apple to stop collecting commissions on purchases made outside the App Store and end anti-steering practices in the U.S. Sweeney's proposal would require Apple to extend these changes globally. If accepted, 'Fortnite' would return to the App Store within a week, but Apple would not collect any revenue from Epic Games beyond the annual developer fee. This move aligns with Epic's broader goal of reducing platform control and promoting competition, though it is unlikely that Apple will accept the offer given its history of defending its commission model.
