Gboard's Voice Typing on Pixel Transforms into Advanced Features
Summary
Google has updated Gboard on Pixel devices, changing the name of 'Assistant voice typing' to 'Advanced features.' This rebranding does not affect the functionality, which still includes dictating and editing messages with voice commands. The change was first observed in August 2023 but is now more widely rolling out with Gboard version 15.2. Google has also updated its support documentation to reflect the new branding.
- Old Name: Assistant voice typing
- New Name: Advanced features
- Functionality: Use advanced voice commands to edit text, add emojis, and more
Assistant voice typing was initially introduced in 2021 with the Pixel 6 and is exclusive to Pixel devices. It allows users to dictate messages, make edits, and send messages using their voice. Additionally, Google recently added a voice typing toolbar for all Android devices, which was first introduced on tablets.
Other recent updates to Gboard include:
- Undo and Redo shortcuts
- Circle and pill-shaped keys
- Changes to the shortcuts button
