Google Maps ETA Vanishes from Driver’s Dashboard in Some Android Automotive Vehicles
Summary
In some vehicles running Android Automotive OS, the estimated time of arrival (ETA) feature has been removed from the driver’s dashboard after a recent Google Maps update. This change primarily affects Volvo and Polestar vehicles, which have seen widespread complaints on various forums. The removal appears to be due to firmware updates from these manufacturers rather than an update from Google.
Previously, the ETA was displayed as a small bubble below turn-by-turn navigation in the instrument cluster. Now, it is no longer visible in the latest updates. However, ETAs are still available when using Google Maps with normal Android Auto instead of the full Android Automotive OS.
The feature was initially added in August 2024, and there is currently no clear timeline for whether this issue will be addressed.
