Google Maps for iOS Harnesses Gemini AI to Identify Locations from Screenshots

Google Maps for iOS now uses Gemini AI to automatically identify and add locations from your iPhone screenshots.

Google Maps for iOS introduces a new feature that utilizes Google Gemini, an AI service, to identify locations from iPhone screenshots. The 'Screenshots' list under the 'You' tab in the app will automatically populate with recognized locations based on these images. Users need to grant permission for Google Maps to access their photos, and they can then review and select which locations to add to their maps. This feature is designed to simplify the process of saving locations by scanning screenshots for searchable text that indicates a place. The update began rolling out in the US from May 8, 2025, starting with users who have selected to try the new function.
