Google is pushing more developers to adopt Android's new photo picker for better privacy when accessing photos and videos on devices, with stricter enforcement set to begin in January.

Google has started enforcing a new policy that pushes more Android apps to use the system photo picker introduced in Android 13, which allows apps to access only the photos and videos that users pick. This move aims to improve privacy by limiting app access to users' full photo and video libraries. Developers can still submit a declaration form to continue using the READ_MEDIA_IMAGES and READ_MEDIA_VIDEO permissions if they demonstrate a need for broad access.
