Google Unveils NotebookLM App for Android & iPhone

Overview

Google unveiled the design of the native NotebookLM app for both Android and iPhone users, which is set to launch in beta over the next few weeks. The iOS version will be available on May 20, coinciding with the first day of Google I/O 2025. This new app aims to replace the current Progressive Web App (PWA) experience for most users.

Features

Homepage Layout

  • Top Tabs: Recent, Shared, Title, and Downloaded
  • Notebook Cards: Each card features a prominent play button to launch an Audio Overview with background playback and offline support.
  • Fullscreen Player: Includes a waveform display, allowing users to join podcasts and ask questions to AI hosts.

Notebook Interface

  • Bottom Bar: Access to Sources, Chat, and Studio (tools)
  • Floating Action Button (FAB): Prominently placed for creating new notebooks
  • Source Integration: Supports uploading PDFs, websites, YouTube videos, and pasting text. It also appears in the system share sheet for quick source addition.

Tablet Interface

Google also shared the tablet interface design, optimizing the user experience for larger screens.

Additional Features

  • Language Support: Audio Overviews will be available in over 50 languages.
  • Web Search and Discovery: NotebookLM can now search the web and discover sources automatically.
  • Mind Maps: Recently introduced, enhancing note-taking and organization capabilities.

Pre-Registration

Users can pre-register for the app on both Android (Google Play Store) and iOS (App Store).
