Google has officially begun notifying Android users via email about a major update to its cloud storage policy that will impact how device data is managed. Within the next 45 days, WhatsApp backups—previously exempt from storage quotas—will begin counting toward the standard 15GB of free storage provided with every Google Account. This change includes all chat histories, images, and videos stored via the app, as well as system-level data like call logs and device settings. Users who exceed their storage limits may find themselves unable to back up their data or receive new emails unless they clear space or upgrade to a paid Google One subscription.
