iPadOS 18 Update Bricks M4 iPad Pro - Apple Pulls Update After User Complaints

Apple has temporarily pulled iPadOS 18 for M4 iPad Pro models after users reported their devices were bricked following the update.

Apple on Monday released iPadOS 18 to the public, but some owners of M4 iPad Pro found that their iPads no longer turned on after installing the update, leading Apple to temporarily pull the update for those devices.

According to reports from people on Reddit and Apple’s forums, after attempting to install iPadOS 18, at a certain point in the installation process the iPad turns off and can't be restarted. It isn’t even possible to restore through iTunes on a PC, meaning these iPads are bricked until either Apple issues a fix or they’re replaced.

Apple hasn’t publicly commented but has stopped offering the OTA update option for M4 owners who have not yet updated. Existing installers are unaffected and can still download and install iPadOS 18. A MacRumors forum poll taken before the problem emerged suggested it was happening to about three percent of updaters.
