RCS messaging is now available on iPhone but its adoption has been slow due to a lack of carrier support, device support, and encryption. Google had hoped that Apple adopting RCS would fix everything, but currently it remains a distant second option to iMessage. While supported carriers in select countries enable RCS, it is far from a global or universal messaging protocol. The lack of encryption means most people will likely still default to other services when possible, making RCS more complicated rather than universally helpful.
