According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is set to use liquid metal materials in the hinges of its upcoming foldable iPhone. This decision aims to enhance durability, screen flatness, and minimize visible creases, which are common issues with current foldable screens. The material's unique properties help prevent fatigue failure, a problem similar to how an aluminum can tears when repeatedly folded.

While Apple has previously used liquid metal in minor components like the SIM ejector tool for the iPhone and iPad, this marks its first significant application in a core component of a device. For the iPhone fold project, Apple is reportedly working with Chinese firm Dongguan Yian Technology, which will see its annual revenues double due to the exclusive contract.

Kuo also hints that the foldable iPhone may be priced higher than current Mac Studio models. His insights are based on supply chain contacts and a recent industry survey, although he has been known to mix guesswork with his reports.
