Marvel Rivals Rejects Original Heroes to Mine Decades of Comic Lore

The developers of the upcoming hero shooter are prioritizing the vast library of existing icons over creating new faces for the roster.

NetEase Games has confirmed that Marvel Rivals will focus exclusively on established Marvel characters for the foreseeable future, citing the sheer depth of the brand's history as more than enough to sustain the game. With 48 heroes already revealed, creative director Guangyun GuangGuang Chen emphasized that the team is not concerned about balance issues as the lineup grows, choosing instead to mine decades of lore rather than inventing original fighters. This strategy ensures fans see their favorite comic book legends before any non-canonical creations enter the arena.
