Meta attempts to exploit EU DMA for access to iPhone user data

Meta appears to be abusing the EU DMA to gain access to private iPhone user data, raising concerns about privacy and security.

Meta has filed 15 requests through the EU Digital Market Act, seeking deep access to iPhone user data, potentially giving them unprecedented access far beyond what is necessary for interoperability.

According to a report from Reuters, Meta has filed more interoperability requests than any other company. Apple's statement reveals that this could enable Facebook and Instagram to read all of a users messages and emails, see every phone call they make or receive, track every app they use, scan all of their photos, look at their files and calendar events, log all of their passwords, and more.

Apple says Meta is exploiting the DMA's interoperability request process in an attempt to gather unprecedented access to iPhone user data. The DMA allows for potential fines against Apple if it doesn't comply with lawful requests, but there has been no public statement from either Meta or the EU on this issue.
