Next-Gen C2 Modem in the Works for Future iPhones: Bridging the Gap with Qualcomm
C2 Modem in Development for Future iPhones Apple has just unveiled the C1 modem with the iPhone 16e, marking a significant step towards reducing dependency on Qualcomm. The C1 is hailed as a 'platform for generations,' but rumors are already circulating about the next-generation C2 modem. According to a reliable leaker on X (formerly Twitter), Apple is internally testing the C2 modem, identified as C4020.
While no specifics were provided beyond its existence, it is expected that the C1 will be used in upcoming devices like the rumored iPhone 17 Air or Slim, and possibly an iPhone 17e slated for early 2026. The C2 could make its debut in the iPhone 18 lineup, iPads, or even Macs.
The C1 currently lacks certain features offered by Qualcomm modems, such as mmWave 5G. Apple is likely focusing on achieving feature parity with Qualcomm's offerings to ensure the C-series modems are competitive across a range of devices.
