Android Auto 14.1 Beta Update Introduces Game Support

Google has started rolling out a beta update for Android Auto, version 14.1, which introduces support for select Android games on car displays. This new feature mirrors the capability available in vehicles with Google Built-in (Android Automotive). The update allows certain games to be played on the car's display when the vehicle is parked.

  • Games Available: Angry Birds 2 and Beach Buggy Racing were tested, among others like Farm Heroes Saga and Candy Crush Soda Saga.
  • Parked Mode Only: Games are accessible only when the vehicle is in park mode. Once the vehicle is shifted out of park, the game closes automatically.
  • Full-Screen Experience: The update introduces a full-screen app experience with an 'Exit' button accessible via a swipe gesture from the top of the screen.

The current list of supported games includes Farm Heroes Saga, Candy Crush SodaSaga, Angry Birds 2, and Beach Buggy Racing. Google is expected to expand this list over time. The update is currently available in the beta track, with plans to release it to the stable track soon.

Users can sign up for the beta program via the Play Store, though it often reaches capacity quickly.
