Apple has officially discontinued the Home Button with the release of the iPhone 16e, marking the end of its nearly two-decade presence in Apple products. The iPhone 16e is a budget-friendly replacement for the iPhone SE and introduces Face ID, phasing out the last model that still featured a home button. Additionally, this move means that no new Apple product features a Lightning port, as they have transitioned to USB-C. The Home Button was first introduced in 2007 with the original iPhone and appeared on various models including iPhones up to the iPhone 8, all three generations of iPhone SE, and iPod Touches. It also served as the home for Apple's Touch ID biometric security feature since its introduction in 2013. Despite its retirement, Touch ID continues to be part of Apple's iPad lineup.
