Apple has been granted another patent for technology that would allow it to embed Face ID in the iPhone's display, potentially reducing the size of the camera cutout.

While Apple has been working on this for many years, there are a couple of reasons why it might debut in the iPhone 17 lineup.

Firstly, there have been multiple reports that at least one of this year’s models will have a smaller display cutout, something that embedding Face ID would enable.

Secondly, it’s also been reported that Apple is working on an iPhone 17 Air which will have a single punch-hole camera instead of the Dynamic Island. Reducing the size of the cutouts would be a design consistency for this model.
