OpenAI has introduced enhanced integration for ChatGPT with macOS, aimed at improving workflows in areas such as search, writing, and coding. This new feature, known as 'Work with Apps on macOS,' is available across all tiers of ChatGPT, including the free version. Version 1.2025.057 allows users to activate ChatGPT by pressing Option + Space or clicking its menu bar icon, providing a 'Work with Apps' button in the ChatGPT interface within active applications.

ChatGPT now works seamlessly with a variety of apps, including Xcode, Visual Studio Code, JetBrains, Android Studio, macOS Notes, TextEdit, Terminal, iTerm, Warp, and Panic's Prompt. Users can manage app compatibility through Settings -> Work with Apps -> Manage Apps. After each interaction, ChatGPT summarizes its suggestions in the main chat interface.

Developers can use ChatGPT to edit code directly within their IDEs, with the ability to undo changes using Command-Z or review proposed changes before applying them. The feature also supports making suggestions for specific code blocks. Voice control improvements include better app navigation, although voice editing of code is not yet supported.

Data usage and privacy are addressed in OpenAI's Data Controls page, where users can opt out of having their chat history used for model training. A Temporary Chat feature ensures a clean slate by ignoring previous chat history.
