iOS 18.4.1 Update Addresses Two Actively Exploited Vulnerabilities

Apple has released iOS 18.4.1, a minor update to the latest version of its mobile operating system. While the update primarily includes a CarPlay fix and no new features, it addresses two significant security vulnerabilities.

  • CoreAudio Issue (CVE-2025-31200): A memory corruption issue that could allow malicious code execution when processing media files. This vulnerability has been mitigated with improved bounds checking.
  • RPAC Issue (CVE-2025-31201): An issue in the operating system that allowed attackers with arbitrary read and write access to bypass Pointer Authentication. The vulnerable code has been removed from the OS.

Apple is aware of reports that these vulnerabilities may have been used in 'extremely sophisticated' attacks against targeted individuals on iOS. Although the exploits affected a limited number of users, Apple recommends all iOS users install the update to protect their devices and data.

Importance of Updating

Keeping your operating system up-to-date is crucial for maintaining security. The latest updates ensure that vulnerabilities are patched, making it harder for malicious actors to compromise your device.
