AirPods Max Level Up: Lossless Audio and Ultra-Low Latency on the Way
Experience premium sound like never before with the AirPods Max's new lossless audio and ultra-low latency features, set to debut in April.

Apple to Bring Lossless Audio and Low-Latency Features to AirPods Max
Apple is set to enhance the capabilities of the AirPods Max with an upcoming software update in April. The update, scheduled for iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4, will introduce lossless audio support and ultra-low latency audio.
Lossless Audio Support
- 24-bit, 48kHz: The new feature will enable lossless audio playback, preserving the integrity of original recordings on Apple Music tracks.
- Personalized Spatial Audio: This enhancement extends to Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking, making the AirPods Max ideal for musicians to create and mix content.
- Cable Options: Support is available when using a USB-C to 3.5mm audio cable or a USB-C to USB-C cable, which will be necessary for true lossless playback.
Ultra-Low Latency Audio
- Reduced Lag Time: The update also includes ultra-low latency audio, significantly lowering the delay between audio played on a connected device and heard through the AirPods Max.
- Gaming and Livestreaming: This feature is particularly beneficial for gamers and livestreamers, offering performance comparable to native built-in speakers on Macs, iPhones, and iPads.
Additional Accessories
- A USB-C to 3.5mm audio cable will be available for purchase from Apple's online store, priced at $39.
