Amazon Says Goodbye to the Appstore for Android: What You Need to Know

Amazon is pulling the plug on its Appstore for Android devices this August, marking the end of an era for the alternative app marketplace.

Amazon has announced the shutdown of the Amazon Appstore for Android devices on August 20, 2025. The store has served as an alternative to Google Play for years, and its closure will affect users who have manually installed it on their devices. Apps downloaded from the Amazon Appstore may not function properly after the shutdown. Additionally, the Amazon Coins program is being discontinued, with no further purchases possible as of February 20, 2025. Unspent coins will be refunded at a rate of 100 coins to $1. Fire Tablet, Fire TV, and other Amazon devices will continue to use the store.
