Android 16 Beta 2 Simplifies Customization of Temperature and Measurement Units

Android 16 Beta 2 adds a 'Regional preferences' section in Settings, making it easier to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit, Metric and Imperial units, and more.

Android 16 Beta 2 Introduces Easier Unit Settings

Android 16 Beta 2 introduces a new 'Regional preferences' section in the 'Languages' page of the Settings app, allowing users to easily change several settings that previously required more complex navigation. These changes include:

  • Region: Specify your preferred region.
  • Temperature Units: Choose between Celsius and Fahrenheit.
  • Measurement System: Select from Metric, Imperial (US), or Imperial (UK).
  • First Day of Week: Set the first day of the week to Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday.

These preferences can be adjusted even after the system defaults are set based on your region or language. While not all apps will reflect these changes, any app that references Android’s default settings should display the new preferences. For example, Google's Pixel Weather app updates to show the selected temperature unit, but Google Maps continues to use its own measurement system regardless of the system setting.
