Android 16 Beta 3.1 Update Overview

Google has released Android 16 Beta 3.1, less than a week after the main release, for various Pixel devices. The update addresses several bugs and performance issues to enhance the user experience.

Key Fixes

  • Settings App Crash: Resolved an issue causing the system Settings app to crash repeatedly when launched in languages other than English (Issue #403303683).
  • Screen Brightness Oscillation: Fixed a problem where the screen brightness would fluctuate between app-specified, automatic, and user-set brightness levels (Issue #392522561).
  • Battery Drain from High CPU Load: Addressed a performance issue causing excessive battery drain due to high CPU load.
  • Memory Leaks in System Server: Resolved a performance issue that sometimes caused memory leaks in the system server.

Device Support and Update Size

The update, BP22.250221.013 with the March 2025 security patch, is available for the following devices: Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The OTA update is 6.70 MB for the Pixel 9.

Eligibility and Installation

All eligible devices enrolled in the Android Beta for Pixel program will receive an over-the-air (OTA) update to Beta 3.1. Factory images are also available for download.
