Android 16 Beta Continues Work on Pixel ‘Battery Health’

Google has been developing a ‘Battery Health’ settings page for Pixel devices since October 2022, and the work continues with Android 16 Beta 2. The latest version of Settings Services (1.1.0.717462792) includes new strings related to this feature.

Key Features:

• Battery Health Page: Located in Settings > Battery > Battery Health, this page will allow users to view the health status of their battery and provide tips for extending its life.
• Tips for Extending Battery Life: These include turning on Adaptive Charging, avoiding extreme temperatures, turning off unused features, and updating to the latest software.
• Battery Capacity: The page will display the estimated percentage of charge the battery can hold compared to a new one. This measurement may change after recalibration.
• Recalibration Process: Users can opt to ‘Improve battery measurements’ through a recalibration process that takes several weeks. During this period, a status indicator will show ‘Recalibration in progress,’ and the battery capacity will be updated once complete.

Potential Impact:

• If launched with Android 16, this feature could help users better understand and manage their device’s battery health, potentially leading to longer-lasting batteries.
• The most recent addition to Pixel’s battery features was the display of device temperature in December.
