Apple Acquires Pixelmator: A Bright Future Ahead or Dark Skies? - Apple Insider

Apple's acquisition of Mac developer Pixelmator may brighten the future of its beloved apps or could bring dark skies ahead pending regulatory approval. If successful, Apple gains Photomator, Pixelmator and Pixelmator Pro - a cheaper alternative to Adobe Photoshop that has become much more than just a cost-saving option.

Apple is set to acquire Mac developer Pixelmator, pending regulatory approval. If successful, it means that Apple will gain Photomator, Pixelmator, and most significantly Pixelmator Pro. The future of these apps remains uncertain as there are concerns about their fate considering Apple’s mixed track record with acquired apps. For instance, Dark Sky was shut down while Workflow became Shortcuts. However, with the resources provided by Apple, there's hope that a version of Pixelmator Pro may be developed for iPadOS.
