Apple Acquires Pixelmator and Photomator: A New Era for Photo Editing on Apple Devices

Pixelmator and Photomator apps are now officially part of Apple, with updates featuring new splash screens and privacy policies.

Official Confirmation of Pixelmator and Photomator Acquisition by Apple

In November, the Pixelmator team announced an agreement to be acquired by Apple. Three months later, on February 11, 2025, the acquisition has been officially confirmed through software updates for the Pixelmator and Photomator apps on iPhone and iPad. The same confirmation is also included in updates for Pixelmator Pro and Photomator for Mac.

Upon updating to the latest versions, users are greeted with a splash screen announcing that these apps are now part of Apple. This is accompanied by a link to Apple's privacy policy, which now applies to both photo and image editing applications.

The future of Pixelmator under Apple remains uncertain. It is not yet known how the update cadence will change or if there will be any changes to the pricing model. There is also speculation about whether these apps might be integrated into future operating system updates. However, for now, it marks the beginning of a new era for Pixelmator within Apple.
