Apple Acquires Pixelmator Team: A New Chapter for Image Editing

In a surprise announcement, Pixelmator announced that it is being acquired by Apple. The team behind the Mac image editing app shared the news on its blog, with the acquisition set to bring Pixelmator, Pixelmator Pro, and Photomator apps under Apple's ownership.
The acquisition requires regulatory approval before completion, but for now there will be "no material changes" to the apps. Pixelmator Pro is a $49.99 one-time purchase on the Mac App Store, while Photomator sells for $79.99 as a lifetime offer or alternatively at $7.99 per month and $29.99 per year.
In integrating with Apple, Pixelmator fills an image editing gap alongside Final Cut Pro for video and Logic Pro for music production. The team expressed being inspired by Apple since its inception, and looks forward to reaching a wider audience and making "a bigger impact on the lives of creative people around the world."
