Apple Announces Major App Store Tax Adjustments in Japan, Eurasia, and South America

Apple announces significant tax and pricing updates for the App Store across multiple global markets, affecting developers in Europe, Asia, and South America.

Apple has announced updates to its App Store pricing and taxes for developers in various regions as of February 6, 2025. These changes are due to tax-related regulatory modifications and foreign exchange rate fluctuations. Specific adjustments include the introduction of VAT in Azerbaijan (18%) and Peru (18%), a standard VAT increase from 20% to 23% in Slovakia, a reduced VAT rate for ebooks at 5% in Slovakia, an increased reduced VAT rate for news publications from 5% to 9% in Estonia, and an increased reduced VAT rate for ebooks from 10% to 14% in Finland. Additionally, on April 1, 2025, changes will take effect in Japan where Apple is classified as a Specified Platform Operator, requiring the collection of a 10% Japanese Consumption Tax for transactions involving non-Japanese developers. Developers can review these updates through the Pricing and Availability section in App Store Connect.
