Apple Refutes UK Regulator’s Claims on iPhone Browser Policies Apple has strongly contested claims made by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) regarding its policies on mobile web browsers for iPhones. In a preliminary report released in November 2024, the CMA argued that Apple's restrictions were anticompetitive and limited developers' ability to innovate.

Apple countered these assertions, stating that the CMA's findings are incorrect and unlawful. The company emphasized that the proposed remedies would create more problems than they solve, potentially degrading the robust security, privacy, and performance features of iOS. Apple also highlighted that there is already sufficient competition in mobile browsers on iOS and asserted that both developers and users are satisfied with the current status quo.

The CMA must now publish a final report, expected in February or March 2025, with a statutory deadline of March 16, 2025. Apple's arguments focus on maintaining the integrity of its platform, citing potential harm to security and privacy if third-party app stores are allowed, as mandated by the EU's Digital Markets Act.

This ongoing dispute highlights the tension between regulatory efforts to increase competition and Apple's stance on protecting user experience and data security.
