Apple collaborates with Sony to enhance VR gaming on Vision Pro

Apple is reportedly planning on supporting typical VR game controllers on Apple Vision Pro and has approached Sony to get going on this, according to Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter. This will hopefully make Apple Vision Pro more appealing for gaming.

Apple is reportedly collaborating with Sony to bring support for typical VR game controllers to its Vision Pro headset, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The company is said to be working on a major effort to support third-party hand controllers in the device's visionOS software and has teamed up with Sony Group Corp. to make it happen.

Apple approached Sony earlier this year, and the two companies agreed to work together on launching support for the PlayStation VR2's hand controllers on the Vision Pro. Apple is also said to be prototyping a 'wand' for the Vision Pro, which would offer more precise control.

The report notes that while Apple Vision Pro currently supports traditional gaming controllers from Xbox and PlayStation for Apple Arcade games, it does not support normal VR controllers. This makes it difficult to experience most VR games on the headset.

According to Gurman, Apple has sold fewer than half a million units of the Apple Vision Pro and that most owners are using it less than the company would have hoped. Despite this, Apple will continue to invest in the product category.
