Apple Contemplates Search Ads for Maps: A New Frontier in Monetization

Apple may be exploring the addition of search ads in its Maps app, mirroring existing monetization efforts in News and Stocks.

According to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter, Apple is exploring the possibility of adding search ads to its Maps app, a strategy it has already implemented in its News and Stocks apps. The aim is to bolster Apple's in-house advertising business. This isn't the first time Apple has considered this idea; a few years ago, employees explored integrating search ads that would allow businesses to pay for higher search rankings within the app. The concept was discussed again during a recent hands-on meeting, with possibilities including more prominent placement of certain locations on the map. However, there is no set timeline for when these changes might be implemented, and engineering efforts have not yet begun.
