Apple Ditches M2, M3 MacBook Air in Favor of New M4 Model with Lower Price Tag

Apple refreshes its MacBook Air lineup with the M4 chip, offering a significant price drop and making the affordable Mac even more appealing.

Summary Apple has discontinued the M2 and M3 MacBook Air models, following the launch of the new M4 model. The M4 MacBook Air is now available starting at $999 (or $899 for education customers), offering a $100 price reduction compared to the M3 model. Additionally, the 15-inch M4 MacBook Air starts at $1199, down from $1299. This pricing shift significantly lowers the entry point for larger Mac laptops, which previously cost around $2500 for models over 14 inches.

The M1 MacBook Air is still available at Walmart for $629 (regularly priced at $699), providing an even more affordable option for budget-conscious buyers. Other retailers may continue to sell the remaining inventory of M2 and M3 MacBook Airs, but they will need to offer significant discounts to compete with the new M4 models.
