Apple Eyes Oxford: Rumored First Store in Historic City to Open at Westgate Shopping Center

Rumors Suggest Apple to Open First Store in Oxford
Reports from local newspaper The Oxford Clarion indicate that Apple is considering opening its first store in Oxford, which would be located inside the city's Westgate Shopping Center. This follows recent news of Apple relocating and expanding its presence in Manchester. Currently, the nearest Apple Store to Oxford is 25 miles away.
The potential location has been vacant since May 2024 when clothing retailer Superdry vacated a 5,000 square foot space as part of their restructuring plan. The site has recently received planning permission for alterations that match the description of what an unnamed client (rumored to be Apple) requires.
The plans detail changes to the shopfront, including narrowing the existing opening and replacing stonework to maintain a cohesive look with the surrounding architecture. These modifications align with Apple's usual approach to preserving and enhancing original building designs, as seen in other locations like Apple Brompton Road in London.
