Apple Forced to Allow Porn App on EU iPhones Due to Digital Markets Act

Due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the EU, Apple has been legally required to allow a pornography app called Hot Tub on iPhones through AltStore PAL, an alternative app marketplace. This marks the first time apps dedicated to pornography can be run on the iPhone. Apple's Phil Schiller previously warned of such scenarios, highlighting concerns over less moderated marketplaces and the potential risks to children. Despite these concerns, Apple has limited control over content in alternative marketplaces. The company emphasizes its deep concern for user safety, particularly for children, and states that it would never allow such an app on its App Store if not legally required. Parents are advised to be aware of this development and use available protections like Screen Time and third-party content blockers.
