Apple Introduces Account Migration for Apps, Music, and More

Apple introduces a new feature allowing users to merge purchases from multiple accounts, streamlining the management of apps, music, and more.

Overview Apple has introduced a new feature allowing users to migrate their app purchases, music, and other content between different Apple Accounts. This update aims to help individuals who have separate accounts for iCloud and media purchases consolidate them into a single account.

Conditions for Migration

  • Device Requirement: Users must be signed in with both accounts on the same iPhone or iPad.
  • Account Settings:
    • The secondary account (with the purchases) should be linked to Media & Purchases.
    • The primary account should be linked to iCloud.
  • Family Sharing: The secondary account cannot be part of a different Family Sharing group.
  • Purchase Sharing: Purchase Sharing must be turned off on the secondary account.
  • Region and Security:
    • Both accounts must be in the same region and have two-factor authentication enabled.
    • The secondary account must not have any remaining balance, rentals, or pre-orders.
  • Waiting Period: There should be at least a 15-day gap since the last purchase on the secondary account before starting the migration.

Migration Process

  1. Open the Settings app on iOS.
  2. Tap your name, then select Media & Purchases.
  3. Tap View Account (sign in if necessary).
  4. Select Migrate Purchases.
  5. Review the information and follow the steps to complete the migration.
  6. Upon completion, sign out of the secondary account from Media & Purchases settings.
  7. Sign in with the primary account.

Post-Migration

  • The secondary account can no longer be used for media and purchases after the migration.
  • For detailed instructions, refer to Apple's support article.

This feature is particularly useful for users who have multiple accounts and wish to streamline their Apple ecosystem.
