Apple Invites Poses New Challenge to Event Planning App Partiful
 
    Apple has launched a new app called Apple Invites, which threatens to overshadow the existing event planning application Partiful. Founded as a website in 2020, Partiful expanded to iOS and Android in 2024 and gained millions of users. Despite being recognized by Apple as a 2024 Cultural Impact Finalist, Partiful now faces competition from Apple Invites, which integrates closely with other Apple services like Maps, Music, Messages, and Mail. While some argue that Apple's entry into the market could grow awareness and benefit third-party developers, the phenomenon known as 'Sherlocking'—where Apple creates an app or feature to compete directly with a third-party application—has historically endangered smaller developers. The timing of this launch is unusual, as most such Apple announcements occur at WWDC in June.
