Apple Maps Cars Now Capture AI Training Data While Enhancing Map Accuracy

Apple has updated its disclosure on the Apple Maps Image Collection website, announcing that starting in March 2025, imagery collected from its survey cars will be used not only to improve map accuracy and features like Look Around but also to train generative AI models. These AI models power various Apple Intelligence features such as Clean Up, which removes background objects from photos; Image Playground, which generates images based on keywords; and Image Wand, which creates images from rough sketches. Apple emphasizes its commitment to privacy by blurring faces and license plates in the collected imagery.
