Apple Maps' Look Around: A New Frontier for AI Training

Apple has announced that it will use data collected from its Apple Maps Look Around feature to train generative AI models. The Look Around function provides road-level viewpoints of areas similar to Google Street View, and the vast amount of data—collected via specialized backpacks or vehicle rigs—will be used for various AI purposes, including image recognition, creation, and enhancement features like Visual Intelligence, Photo's Clean Up feature, and Image Playground as part of Apple Intelligence. For privacy, faces and license plates are blurred before publication. The use of this data is intended to improve existing services and develop new ones, aligning with the trend of leveraging extensive data for AI training, while maintaining a focus on ethical practices.
