Apple Seeks Court Stay on App Store Rule Changes Amid Epic Games Appeal

Apple has filed an emergency motion with the U.S. District Court in Northern California, requesting a stay on the enforcement of new App Store rules that require developers to link to alternative payment methods within their apps. This move comes after Apple's recent loss to Epic Games in a long-standing legal battle over the App Store's business model. The court ruled that Apple’s anti-steering provisions violate California’s Unfair Competition Law, but Apple plans to appeal this decision. If the stay is granted, Apple can maintain its current policies until the appeal is resolved. In the meantime, apps like Kindle, Patreon, and Spotify have already adapted their apps to comply with the new rules by including links to external payment methods. The court's decision on the stay is expected by May 28.
