Apple Shifts AppleCare+ to Subscription Model, Ditching Upfront Payment Options in Stores

AppleCare+ now primarily offers monthly or annual subscriptions, with upfront payments only available for online purchases.

Apple has revamped its AppleCare+ program, discontinuing upfront payment options for the Theft and Loss plan in physical stores and through device settings, effective immediately. Now, customers can only opt for monthly or annual subscription plans when purchasing coverage from retail locations or directly via their devices. The company claims these changes are intended to reduce initial costs and ensure continuous coverage without gaps. Monthly plans for an iPhone 16 Pro cost $13.99, while the annual plan offers a slight discount at $249. However, those who prefer a one-time payment can still choose this option when purchasing products from Apple's online store during the configuration process.
